Finally some downtime since the weekend and I’ve managed to set some time aside to update the Travelogue, there’s simple nothing better than feet up with a Norwegian Ice cold beer on my room balcony at Knudsen Hotel, with a space heater on, our last flight was Sunday from Humberside (via Wick), I’ve got a couple of weeks here before we head north east to Trondheim and continue our trip across Norway. This week I will have to go into town and find a technology shop to get my cameras looked at as I have been having issues recording video and audio at decent qualities and levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Leaving Humberside Sunday morning once the weather had died down when the rain has stopped but we still had a lot of cloud cover, which this time of year is standard, flying along the eastern side towards Newcastle and North Sea and over towards Aberdeen and Inverness landing at Wick. Located at Scotland’s north-eastern tip only a stones throw from John O’ Groats, and was the main operating base for RAF No 18 Group Coastal Command, it was the RAF pilot in a Spitfire that spotted the German Battleship Bismark laying 320 miles from the coast of Wick and enabled The Royal Navy to sink her and prevent Germany causing Havoc in The North Atlantic. We climbed up to FL250 which is the highest we will travel on this tour, with hopefully flights at lower levels over some of the scenery to come.<\/p>\n\n\n

After a couple of hours at Wick to rest and wait for survival equipment to arrive from Thurso and plotting a route that will take me into Norway we refueled the Piper and loaded up with coffee, food and life raft and vest to set out over The Orkney and Shetland Islands and then over the cold north sea making landfall at Bergan Norway for a cold and snowy approach. The aircraft is buttoned up in a warm hanger and ready to continue. During that flight we added a camera on the under the tail plane to capture the coast of Scotland behind us.<\/p>\n\n\n
